Myself and Artist Christopher Jenkins were recently awarded a grant from Arts Council England to take our ongoing collaborative project, 'Cardboard Castle' to the Bestival Music Festival. It was our biggest installation so far with over 5000 people taking part. 'A towering structure built from willow and found cardboard. An evolving platform for public free expression.Visitors paint, write and colour using childrenʼs poster paint. What they create is thoughtful, funny, political, loving, spiritual and rude. Itʼs a message board, political placard or a shrine to absent friends. Sometimes its a giant colouring book. The democratic nature of the artwork means that the artists become facilitators in the creation of an ephemeral collaborative intervention and the ownership is shared.'
I recently took part in Kieren Reed's Social Sculpture project in the grounds of ArtSway in the Newforest. Sculpture Kieron Reed has created a small hut which sleeps one person, has a bed, a desk and basic tools for cooking and cleaning. There is no electricity. Artists, Architects, thinkers and writers were asked to take part. Each person left an object or intervention for the next person to consider. read more here
